Spinal Infections
Spinal infections may be caused by bacteria or fungal organisms and may occur following surgery or spontaneously in patients with certain risk factors. Risk factors for spinal infections include poor nutrition, immune suppression, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, cancer, diabetes and obesity.
Spinal Tumors
Spine tumors may arise from any of the structures of the spine or the spinal column. Neck or back pain are common presenting symptoms of spinal cord tumors. The pain is often present at night and is worsened with physical activity.
